Words cannot say how much the Future Quake Show has impacted my life over the past 3 1/2 years since I began listening at Show 122 (an interview with Dr. Michael Heiser). Alex Jones may have woken me up in July 2008… but in September of 2008, Dr. Future and Tom Bionic taught me how to become a Truth seeker.

I will forever be grateful for that.

Notes: Do everything that is good in the name of Jesus… do all for His glory; You can always be safe following the Golden Rule–how would you want to be treated?; Don’t follow the simplistic templates in religious literature… follow the leading of the Spirit; When you see the crowd–particularly of your own nation or religious group–begin to form in a mob, inciting each other to demonize groups or take aggressive action in anything other than love, then turn the other way, even if they don’t understand your action or motives; Obviously exploit God’s Word as your primary source of truth and reality about our world… and the one that we don’t see as well–don’t let others tell you what it means; Look to other unexpected sources and voices for surprising wisdom as well… get used to separating the baby from the bathwater with such sources; Remember that the differing opinion you hear may be the one you adopt later, a few years down the road… so be slow to judge; Jesus doesn’t always need defending; Always be on the lookout for subtle idols in our lives… anything we set up beyond critique in our lives–a status that only God deserves… these can be our patriotism, our loyalties to our political ideology or party, religious denomination or movement, or other label or tribe; When in doubt, always remember that it is always about Jesus; The person and work of Jesus Christ will aright a ship that’s listing in troubling and confusing waters, and straighten any crooked path; Set the captives free… spread Christ’s love… bind the devil… and elevate Jesus as God in flesh who dwelt among us and died in penalty for our sins, and who’s coming again

Notes: Last parting words for his Futurians… what Dr. Future has learned from the last 7 years; When issues get confusing, just err on the side of love… when you don’t know the motives of someone else, err on the side of love… when you don’t know how to address a societal or personal problem, err on the side of love; If you do, and you still get it wrong, I am confident that Jesus Himself will forgive you for your own error; Do not judge entire societal, ethnic, national, or even religious groups by the actions of a few bad apples; You will find out when you  meet individuals of such groups that almost all people tend to want to live in peace, raise their kids in safety, and let them have a better life than they, and be kind to their neighbors; They also tend to want to please God in the way they understand Him, with the same human and sinful struggles; Never forget that we never have the whole story… only God… and give others the chance to explain themselves and their views, and take their perspective seriously and fairly, whether you finally agree with them or not… or only partially; Particularly listen to those who do not have a voice from established groups; Take the breath of life you have today as a gift, and a responsibility to make the most of it for the Lord’s kingdom

Notes: Libertarian thinking starts with the understanding that all human beings are problematic and troublesome when entrusted with power, and that no human being is virtuous enough to exercise power over another; So no human being has the right to commit aggressive violence against another–that’s the Golden Rule; The fundamental tenant of libertarian thought is the Golden Rule–we’re all equal before the law; Really the only law is the non-aggression principle… and on that will hang the Constitution and all laws worthy of our respect–they’re all commentaries on or applications of the non-aggression axiom (or the Golden Rule); Virtue cannot be obtained through compulsion; It’s possible to use coercion defensively in order to protect yourself against the vicious, and there arguably is a role for coercion in terms of punishing conspicuous acts of viciousness, but you can’t make somebody righteous through coercion; The way that statism works is that it cocoons us in myriad laws and then leaves us completely at the mercy of the grace of the supposedly divine entity called the state; Libertarianism starts from the proposition that the state–being composed of flawed human beings–cannot make us virtuous through coercion

Notes: Dietrich Bonhoeffer; Bonhoeffer’s letter to a friend: “If you are aboard a train that’s heading the wrong direction, simply switching seats isn’t going to do you any good”; He pointed out that they were unmistakably and irrecoverably on the hot rails to hell, in terms of what the German church was doing; The same thing is happening with the American evangelical church… which is more defined by what they’re taught to hate, than by what we are commanded to do, which is to love; That’s the one thing that betokens our discipleship–the one thing that He said would designate Christians as different from the world is our capacity to love–not merely to love each other, but to love whoever God happens to put in our path; The thing about Ron Paul’s movement that makes it so inexplicable and dangerous to the establishment is that he has the courage to insist that the Golden Rule applies in all spheres of life, especially with respect to what the government does

Notes: Another thing that is very, very disturbing is the sense that there is a severability clause somewhere in the Sermon on the Mount…; Your “neighbor” is whoever God happens to put in your path–that’s the answer that was given in the parable; Jesus chose as an example a Samaritan (an infidel–a nonbeliever) to illustrate the godly principle that your “neighbor” is whoever God happens to put in your path; That’s something which has been repudiated by that same cohort of a church that embraces torture… because obviously you cannot torture your neighbor… if you’re bound by the Golden Rule, you cannot inflict torture on somebody, because obviously you would not want torture to be inflicted upon yourself; Another illustration of where we might be going is the situation in Germany as described in Eric Metaxas’ book on Dietrich Bonhoeffer: “Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy“; “Positive Christianity”–the state-focused, cultural Christianity of Germany in the early 20th Century; As early as 1933, Bonhoeffer knew that he was eventually going to be killed by this regime that he saw rising, which eventually killed him in 1945

Notes: The religious right’s pro-war associations… staunchly anti-Paul; Some of Ron Paul’s most vicious criticism has come from the religious right; Values Voter Summit; The Dreyfus affair in France; Are we in danger of the same thing happening with the evangelical conservative forces here?; There seems to have been a full-blown identification between the military on the one hand and the body of Christ on the other, and there’s a complete repudiation of the idea of the Golden Rule as it applies to people who are not part of our tribe (tribe in this instance being defined as the nation state, or being defined as a particular element of the nation state); A study of attitudes both domestically and internationally with respect to the question of torture… of all the social cohorts who were polled, the one that tested highest in support of torture was American evangelical Christians

Notes: The last line that Reverand Wurmbrand gives us in his book is “start by changing yourself“; You become more peaceful, you become more loving, and pretty soon, if all of us do that, we’ll start to have a world that is more peaceful and more loving; It’s a charge that you can’t walk away from and you can’t pass it off to somebody else… it’s on you to take the truth that you have and to start making it more a part of your life; You have to first believe that the Holy Spirit has the power in each of us to make this change one-on-one in people… it’s not necessarily a ballot box or any other power structures that are the key to win the battle, but it’s the Holy Spirit one-on-one in each one of us; You also have to acknowledge that these battles are spiritual battles, and not physical battles; When it says in the Bible that we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities and powers and rulers in these dark places… if we’re going to have a struggle or anything regarding hatred, it should be addressed to the principalities and powers of darkness who stand condemned, rather than the human pawns that are in this physical sphere that are just a mere shadow of the spiritual battle that is truly going on; We have access to the power to change ourselves… not literally us changing ourselves, but allowing God to change us; When you see a terrorist and you see that God loves them and that God can change them, that changes your whole mindset of how you’re going to address them and interact with them, not as somebody to fear and hate, but as somebody who Jesus died for that needs to hear the message of the gospel… that’s a completely different mindset; Christians should get together and pray for these people, that God would illuminate their minds to what they’re doing, to fill them with the love of Jesus Christ, and somehow make a way that they could know about Jesus

Notes: Jesus fears and hates no one; According to Pastor Wurmbrand, the exortation “do not be afraid” is in the Bible 366 times; How should we feel about terrorists?… we should not be afraid, and we should not have hatred for them; We should see them through the eyes of Christ, and see them with His love, as somebody who has been led astray, but somebody with a soul that Jesus came and died for; Our media–even our Christian media–foster that fear and hate (or don’t fight against it); We have become the 30-second sound bite culture and you can’t have any nuance in a 30-second soundbite… so “Muslims are bad, and Christians are good”… that’s the soundbite–that’s the context of the reporting that we get; If you can get people scared about the menace, you will make them to do all sorts of things that they normally wouldn’t do; If you can convince them that if they don’t do this, they’re gonna lose family, friends, their way of life, etc., they will do stuff that is anathema to the gospel; American has just stayed in a perpetual state of emergency, and our Christian culture has stayed with that button… it has now switched gears over to Islam; It’s a lucrative position to take to keep the fans of of fear and hate; Americans will give a lot of money not to be fearful
