Merry Christmas everyone!

Host: Chris Pinto
Notes:
Most Christians that are exercising discernment and are trying to figure out how we can be more faithful, more obedient, walk in greater holiness to God… they come across this struggle at some point–this celebration of Christmas; It is really a matter of the believer’s individual conscience before God; Romans 14:4-6; We have no commandment from God to celebrate annually the birth of Christ coming into the world… nevertheless, because we are under the new covenant of grace, we don’t have any commandment that forbids us from celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ; Every believer in Christ should be “fully persuaded in their own mind”; Christmas is an opportunity to talk about the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ coming into the world, whether it occurred on December 25th or not; God had foretold that a virgin would bring forth a child, and would call Him Emmanuel, meaning “God with us”; Praise the Lord!

Notes:
Is Christmas of itself wrong?; The Jewish festivals that are talked about in the Old Testament; In the book of Galatians, Paul specifically warns the church about observing the Jewish holy days, because he knows all of that is under the yoke and bondage of the law; Isaiah 1; It’s not so much whether you’re celebrating Christmas, or Passover, or whatever it is… if your heart is not right before the Lord and you’re doing it for your own vain, selfish pleasure, any celebration could and would become offensive in the sight of God; Isaiah 1:10-18; All of these things were according to Jewish law and custom… but it didn’t matter–the problem was that their heart was not right with the Lord–that was the whole problem… so that’s the real question

Notes:
Why was the decision made to turn the pagan festival of Saturnalia or the birth of Mithras into the birth of Christ?; Was the introduction of Christmas–celebrating the birth of Christ instead of the birth of Mithras or of Saturn–was that a replacement holiday? Was it that innocuous, or was there something more to it?; When the Puritans outlawed Christmas, they didn’t just outlaw it because they thought it was not biblical… but because it was a time where immorality would be celebrated–it was a paganized festival; In America today, if we’re honest with ourselves, looking at the country as a whole… the country celebrates Christmas not really because of the birth of Christ; Modern America has really paganized the celebration of Christianity once again

Christmas 2010: A Matter Of The Heart

Posted by on Thursday, 23 December, 2010

Taking a break from the current series to bring you a Christmas message from Chris White of the Nowhere to Run podcast…

Merry Christmas everyone!

Show: Nowhere to Run
Full Podcast: Nowhere to Run 12/21/10
Date: 12/21/10
Host: Chris White
Topics: Christmas is rooted in pagan traditions… the date was rooted in Roman religion; It’s the one time you can talk to your family about Jesus and it not be out of place; Go to the Christmas parties, spend time with your family, let them see what Christ is doing in your life; It’s a matter of the heart; In pagan rituals in the past you had to sacrifice to an idol, participate in some sexual practice, eat meat sacrificed to idols… there were really good reasons for Christians not to participate in pagan festivals; In our American culture, it’s mostly just getting together with your family and eating together… don’t forsake that; Some of your family really needs you… you’ve been praying for them all year, go see how they’re doing… go talk with them, even if it’s just to show them what God is doing in your heart and in your life

Christmas: Overcoming Paganism With Truth – Part 3

Posted by on Friday, 25 December, 2009

Don’t remain silent… there is power in the name of Jesus.

And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.

- Acts 4:12 (ESV)

[Part 3 of a 3-Part series]

Show: Preemption Broadcast
Full Podcast: THE GENETICS OF THE INCARNATION….changes everything
Date: 12/20/09
Host: Russ Dizdar
Topics: Don’t be pushed into being silent about Christ, the incarnation, the angels that declared good news of great joy, and God’s favor to mankind; Don’t be silent about the most incredible, supernatural event in human history; We need to be proclaiming the prophecies about Christ’s coming… they blow Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce and all the rest out of the water because they were always accurate and there’s more of them (almost 300 prior to the appearance of “Logos” Christ in human flesh); Don’t be silent, celebrate Christ, talk about Jesus; We tell children not just the story, but the historic reality of God’s visitation in this world; We get to tell them of the birth of God in human flesh, of how it occurred, and take them to the Scriptures and show them; Don’t let the world get in the way of celebrating, announcing, and being a witness for Jesus Christ; There is eternal, saving power in the name of Jesus

Merry Christmas!

[Part 2 of a 3-Part series]

Show: P.I.D. Radio
Full Podcast:
P.I.D. Radio 11/29/09: The Manhattan Declaration
Date: 11/29/09
Hosts: Derek Gilbert, Sharon Gilbert
Topics: It would be impossible to sterilize our lives of all things related to paganism–how far do you take that?; The wedding rings on our fingers, the days of the week, the names of the month, and most of what we say and do, are all somehow rooted in pagan practices; We are soaking in it–we are living in a fallen world governed by the god of this world (that’s what Jesus called the enemy); As Paul did on Mars Hill, start where they are… use the pagan symbols as an opportunity to spread the love of Christ and the gospel; Let’s not confuse our cultural Christianity with biblical Christianity; We need to pick our battles–the enemy loves it when we get all wrapped up in it because it is a great distraction; It’s no different than it was 2,000 years ago–the Truth has been twisted from the very foundation of the world

Christmas: Overcoming Paganism With Truth – Part 1

Posted by on Friday, 25 December, 2009

Taking a break from the series on 2012 to celebrate the glorious birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. There is power in the name!

Merry Christmas everyone… may it be well with your soul.

[Part 1 of a 3-Part series]

Show: P.I.D. Radio
Full Podcast:
P.I.D. Radio 11/29/09: The Manhattan Declaration
Date: 11/29/09
Hosts: Derek Gilbert, Sharon Gilbert
Topics: The celebration of Christmas–the birth of Jesus Christ; He probably was not born at this time of year; It’s a repackaging of Saturnalia, which is very pagan; Many of the trappings that go along with the “Christian” celebration are pagan practices; Christmas has already been secularized–as it is celebrated, it is pagan in many ways; We should let it become secularized and make our own holiday–The Birth of Christ; Let them have what’s called “Christmas”; There’s a big difference between a “Christian nation” and a “nation with many Christians”; The first Christians that landed here did not celebrate Christmas because they considered it a Roman holiday; If we’re a “Christian” nation, we need to look back at the founders of the nation and ask why we’re celebrating it now and getting all fussy over it; The crass commercialism and consumption that takes place every year at this time has nothing to do with Christ
